Employment Practice Labour Rights

SDG 8.2.9

Sunway University explicitly recognises and upholds labour rights, including employees’ freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining. This recognition applies equally to women and international staff, reflecting our commitment to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. These frameworks shape the creation and application of the University's Human Rights Policy (2022), which is inclusive of everyone working at or with the University.

Human Rights Policy (2022)

In line with this commitment, Sunway University through the Human Rights Policy ensures that:

  • Equal opportunities are provided for all individuals, with no discrimination based on gender, geographic location, or any other personal characteristic.
  • Freedom of association is respected, including the right to join or form labour unions and engage in collective bargaining. Where such rights are limited by law, the University provides alternative channels for independent and fair representation.
  • Harassment and abuse are actively prevented, with any reports of misconduct handled confidentially and with discretion.
  • Workplace safety and health are prioritised, ensuring a supportive and conducive environment for overall well-being.
  • Forced or bonded labour is strictly prohibited in all forms.
  • Children’s rights are protected by adhering to minimum age requirements for employment, whether directly hired or through associates.

This demonstrates the University’s strong commitment to protecting and promoting labour rights for all members of its community, including women and international staff.
