Employment Practice Unions

SDG 8.2.2

At Sunway University, staff associations uphold freedom of association and collective bargaining for all — including women and international staff — while fostering inclusivity, staff well-being, and a united voice in shaping the University’s vision and mission. In line with the University’s Human Rights Policy, employees’ rights to join or form labour unions of their choice, without fear of reprisal or harassment, and to bargain collectively are fully respected. Where such rights are restricted by law, parallel means of independent and free association and bargaining are made available to all employees.

Sunway Staff Association is an official association for Sunway Academic staff, with the primary objective to work with Management to provide a conducive working environment for staff to realise the vision and mission of Sunway University. The Association upholds the principles of freedom of association and collective bargaining for all staff, including women and international staff, ensuring their rights and voices are respected. It also provides an avenue for staff to voice grievances and offer suggestions for improvement. Representatives sit in committees such as the Teaching and Learning Committee, Safety, Health and Environment Committee, Food & Beverage Committee, and the Staff Welfare Committee.
