Scope Extension of Minimisation of Plastic Use and Disposable Waste Policy Across Suppliers and Supply Chain
SDG 12.2.8
Sunway University has adopted a Plastic Minimisation Policy (2018, reviewed 2022) and No Single-Use Plastic Policy (2022) that formalise the University’s commitment to the minimisation of plastic use and disposable items across its operations. These policies explicitly extend to outsourced suppliers, services, and the supply chain, including suppliers, tenants, third-party vendors, and outsourced partners, ensuring consistent application of plastic minimisation requirements.

No Single-Use Plastic Policy (2022)
In addition, the University has implemented a Sustainable Procurement Policy (2021, reviewed 2023) that applies to all external suppliers and governs the procurement of equipment, stationery, services, and building contracts. This policy requires that procurement processes incorporate environmental considerations, including the minimisation of plastic use and disposable items, waste reduction, and sustainability throughout the life cycle of goods and services.
Through this integrated approach, Sunway University ensures that policies on plastic minimisation and disposable items extend to outsourced suppliers, services, and the supply chain, embedding sustainability principles across the procurement of equipment, stationery, and building contracts.
