Affordable Housing for Employees

SDG 11.4.4

Sunway University provides affordable housing for employees through all three options: by evaluating affordability, by directly providing access to housing schemes, and by offering financial support such as housing discounts.

Evaluating Affordability and Financial Support though Staff Discount for Property Purchase

Staff are offered property discounts for residential units developed by the Sunway Group, the master developer of the 800-acre Bandar Sunway township, as a form of financial support to reduce living costs. These discounts are determined by evaluating affordability through local housing market rates, thereby ensuring that staff housing remains accessible and affordable. This approach allows the University to both assess housing affordability and directly support employees through reduced housing expenses, while also contributing to staff well-being, satisfaction, and long-term retention.

The University provides housing directly to its employees through several schemes. Staff members who serve as Resident Wardens are offered on-campus hostel accommodation, while the Vice Chancellor/President is provided with an official residence by the University as part of their employment benefits package.

These arrangements are intended to support Resident Wardens and senior leadership in fulfilling their roles effectively by ensuring proximity to the campus and the community they serve. By offering on-campus or university-sponsored housing, the University fosters a closer connection between its leadership and the institution, facilitating active involvement in campus activities, events, and daily operations. These provisions reflect the University’s commitment to supporting its staff and ensuring they have the resources necessary to succeed in their roles.
