Universitas Indonesia’s URISE Visits Sunway University
Delegates from Urban Innovation, Sustainability, and Engineering (URISE) at Universitas Indonesia recently completed a benchmarking visit to Sunway University. The visit focused on strategic knowledge exchange with the Jeffrey Sachs Center on Sustainable Development (JSC) and the Future Cities Research Institute (FCRI), exploring how Sunway translates interdisciplinary research into impactful public policy and urban solutions.
The URISE delegation—including Prof. Ir. Antony Sihombing, Dr Hendricus Andy Simarmata, and Farrah Eriska Putri—was hosted by Sunway’s leading sustainability experts, including Dr Chen Jit Ern, Head of the Jeffrey Sachs Center, and Professor Ir. Rosdiadee Nordin, Co-Director of the FCRI. Together, they discussed the evolving role of universities in addressing complex global challenges and the importance of fostering resilient, sustainable urban environments.
A central highlight of the visit was a technical tour of the Sunway University Net Zero (Sun-U NZ) Carbon Building. This flagship facility serves as a living laboratory for Sunway’s commitment to planetary health, showcasing innovative low-carbon design and energy-efficient infrastructure. The tour provided the visiting delegates with practical insights into how Sunway integrates sustainable engineering directly into its campus identity.
By hosting such high-level international exchanges, Sunway University continues to solidify its reputation as a regional hub for sustainable innovation. This collaboration underscores the University's dedication to building global networks that drive evidence-based policy and create a lasting, positive impact on the future of urban development.
