Tan Sri Chew Chee Kin appointed Sunway University Pro-Chancellor
Sunway Group Chief Advisor Tan Sri Chew Chee Kin has been appointed pro-chancellor of Sunway University, marking another milestone in a distinguished career spanning more than four decades.
To commemorate the appointment, a gown-fitting ceremony was held at the Archive Room of the Tun Hussein Onn Sunway Library at Sunway University, attended by Sunway Education Group Chief Executive Officer Professor Dato’ Dr Elizabeth Lee, Sunway Education Group Advisor Dato’ Dr Lee Weng Keng, Sunway University Pro-Chancellor Professor Dato’ Sri Idris Jala, Sunway University President Professor Sibrandes Poppema and Sunway Education Group Registrar Ng Beng Lean.
Tan Sri Chew served as president of Sunway Group prior to his retirement in 2025, having held several senior leadership roles since joining the organisation in 1984. Under his outstanding stewardship, Sunway expanded significantly across its diverse sectors and firmly established itself as one of Southeast Asia’s leading conglomerates.
He holds a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) from the University of Malaya and completed the Program in Management Development at Harvard Business School.
Tan Sri Chew now joins a distinguished line-up comprising Tan Sri Datuk Seri Razman Hashim, Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr) Ramon Navaratnam, Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Lin See-Yan, Professor Dato’ Sri Idris Jala, Emeritus Professor Graeme Wilkinson and Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria as the university's pro-chancellor.
