Sunway University Hosts Toyama University Students for Educational Exchange
On the 9th of February 2026, a group of students from the University of Toyama, mainly from the Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences programme, visited Sunway University's Faculty of Medical and Life Sciences as part of an educational and cultural exchange.
The delegation was accompanied by Prof. Dr Ishwar Parhar, Akira Yamada, Section Chief, International Affairs Division, and Kaori Odake, Deputy Manager, International Affairs Division from Toyama University. Our postgraduate students, Nengah Budi, Leong Chi Fung, Raahilah Essa, and Nyew Ke Ying, also joined the visit.
The Sunway University team included Assoc. Prof. Dr Audrey Lim Wei Ling, Deputy Dean of Internationalisation, Prof. Dr Felicia Chung, PhD, P.Tech (Biotechnology), Head of Biomedical Sciences, Prof. Dr Alvin Lai Oon Ng, DPsych, Professorial Teaching Fellow, and lab staff Dhaniah Mohamad, Mohd Abdul Halim Abd Latif, and Mohd Zarifi Mohamad. From SBMDC, Dr Pei Lou Wong and Dr Alan Sang Loon Tan also participated in hosting the visit.
During their time here, the students toured Sunway Medical Centre, arriving via the Canopy Walk from the campus, explored various hospital facilities, and participated in a general tour of the hospital. They also had the opportunity to meet and interact with staff at the Japanese Patient Centre. Special thanks to Shahila Mohd Yunus, Manager, Women and Children Services, for accommodating the students at Sunway Medical Centre and making the visit possible.
The experience provided valuable insights into hospital operations, patient care, and healthcare management in a Malaysian context. This visit not only enriched their understanding of international medical practices but also strengthened collaboration and cross-cultural learning between Toyama University and Sunway University, fostering meaningful connections for future academic and professional opportunities.
