In a major milestone for our institution, Sunway University has officially entered the top tier of the continent's academic elite. We have debuted in the top 100 of the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2026.

This achievement marks a significant breakthrough for both Sunway University and the nation. Alongside Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Universiti Sains Malaysia, we joined the top 100 as new entrants this year. This collective success helped Malaysia double its representation in this elite bracket from three to six universities. This outstanding achievement was recently highlighted in a global piece by VnExpress International, underscoring Malaysia's rising prominence on the regional stage.

Sunway University’s inclusion in the top 100 highlights our steady growth in teaching quality, international reach, and research impact.

This year's rankings evaluated a record 929 universities across 36 countries. The assessment measures performance across five key areas: teaching standards, research environment, research quality, international outlook, and industry partnerships. Our debut in the top 100 reflects the hard work of our academic community and our commitment to providing a world-class education.

Academic analysts note that Malaysia's rise is driven by a mature higher education system. In particular, forward-thinking private universities like Sunway are playing a crucial role by actively improving their global standing and pursuing strategic international partnerships.

While we celebrate this proud moment for Sunway University, we also recognise the outstanding achievements of our Malaysian peers who are elevating the country's academic reputation.

Universiti Teknologi Petronas climbed eight places to reach the joint 35th position, making it the first Malaysian university to break into the top 40. Universiti Malaya continues to be a leading force for the nation, ranking at 65th place.

On the broader regional level, China's Tsinghua University and Peking University continue to lead the continent. Our neighbors in Singapore also maintained their top-tier presence, with the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University taking the 3rd and 4th spots.

As Sunway University enters this new chapter, we remain focused on investing in academic excellence and expanding our global network. This milestone is just the beginning of our journey to further elevate Malaysia as a premier destination for higher education.
