Sunway University Attends APAIE 2026 in Hong Kong
Recently, Sunway University’s President, Professor Sibrandes Poppema, and Manager of Global Engagement and Mobility, Angelyn Tan, attended the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education (APAIE) 2026 conference in Hong Kong. APAIE is committed to promoting the value of international education within the Asia-Pacific region, enabling greater cooperation between institutions, and enriching and supporting international programs, activities and exchanges, as well as being a conduit to connect with the rest of the world. The conference provided a platform for networking and collaboration between institutions.
During the conference, Professor Poppema highlighted Sunway University’s positioning as a Mission-driven 5th Generation University. This innovative model takes teaching and research beyond the traditional classroom and directly into the wider community, placing societal impact at its core. Emphasising the institution's guiding philosophy of "doing well by doing good," he reaffirmed the University's commitment to ensuring that education and research consistently create tangible value for society.
Throughout the event, the Sunway University team engaged in rich, forward-looking conversations grounded in a shared dedication to internationalisation. The discussions explored the many ways universities can collaborate across borders, focusing heavily on:
- Transnational Education (TNE): Expanding global access to quality education.
- Research Collaboration: Partnering to solve shared global challenges.
- Student Exchange & Mobility: Creating diverse, cross-cultural learning opportunities.
- Staff Mobility & Capacity Building: Fostering professional growth and knowledge exchange.
- Academia & Community Engagement: Strengthening the impact of higher education on local and global communities.
These dialogues underscore Sunway University's ongoing dedication to expanding access, strengthening its global impact, and creating meaningful, life-changing opportunities for its students, staff, and the communities it serves.
