Second ESG Reporting Programme Empowers Malaysian SMEs

On 30-31 March, IGSC - Sunway Institute for Global Strategy and Competitiveness ran a second session of our refined ESG reporting training programme for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) due to overwhelming demand.

In partnership with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), we continue our mission to deliver inclusive sustainability reporting training to local businesses as many other programmes remain general and intended for larger corporations. Similar to our first pilot, this programme breaks down complex ESG reporting requirements into actionable strategies for the Malaysian SME context.

A highlight across both our cohorts was the participation of two of only 20 B Corp certified companies currently operating in Malaysia. We are thankful for the participation of Tey Boon How from HHI and Amelia Tan Seo Lay from Signature Market for sharing their experiences and perspectives. We hope their stories have demonstrated that Malaysian businesses are capable of achieving global standards of reporting through a sustainability-driven business strategy that is good for the community, planet and business.

While becoming a B Corp is a prestigious benchmark, we believe that GRI offers a foundational starting point for SMEs before moving on to more complex global sustainability certifications.

We thank all our participants for their active engagement throughout the training. Although this marks the end of our pilot programme, we look forward to seeing you take the next step on your sustainability journey.
