IGSC Launches ESG Training Programme Tailored for Malaysian SMEs
Sustainability training today is largely general and designed for large and multinational corporations. This leaves small and medium enterprises (SMEs) struggling to apply them to their unique context. Bridging this gap requires sustainability reporting to be practical and contextualised for, not just SMEs, but to the Malaysian landscape and value chain.
Our partnership with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) provides a refined ESG reporting training programme for SMEs. The programme balances important high-level concepts with practical hands-on case studies and guidance to give SMEs the necessary tools to create their first sustainability report. We had Dr Allinnettes Adigue, Menaka Ganeson and Vincent de Paz present to support our pilot and share their experiences with participants. This ensures that the training we provide is aligned to global standards while remaining grounded in the local and regional realities faced by SMEs.
We also want to thank Amelia Tan Seo Lay for sharing Signature Market's sustainability story and their journey towards becoming B Corp Certified. Their case study was vital in demonstrating that Malaysian businesses with a sustainability-driven business strategy can create positive impact on the community, planet, and their company’s performance.
Thank you to our first cohort of SME participants for attending this programme. We found their energy and drive for sustainability inspiring.
Special thanks to Ralph A. Stamm from the Embassy of Switzerland in Malaysia for speaking with our first cohort.
This initiative is a collaboration between IGSC - Sunway Institute for Global Strategy and Competitiveness and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), supported by the Swiss Government through the SECO Economic Cooperation and Development.
