FCRI Launches Its Inaugural Conference to Shape the Cities of Tomorrow

The Future Cities Research Institute (FCRI) is proud to announce its inaugural Future Cities Conference 2026, taking place from 15–17 July 2026 at Sunway University, Malaysia. Guided by the theme “From Living Lab to Urban Impact,” the conference marks a significant milestone in FCRI’s journey as a joint initiative between Sunway University and Lancaster University, built on a 20-year strategic partnership. This first edition sets the stage for deeper global conversations on how research can move beyond theory into real-world urban transformation.

Bringing together researchers, policymakers, industry leaders, and practitioners, the conference will feature peer-reviewed paper presentations across four pillars: 

  1. Digital Cities
  2. Sustainable Cities
  3. Healthy Cities, and 
  4. Resilient Cities 

Among special highlights include role-playing on mega urban project simulation, Quantum Innovation Symposium (in partnership with Quantum Innovation Lancaster, tutorials and demo/showcase revolves around urban innovation and Collaborative Workshop Sunway & Lancaster. Designed to foster multidisciplinary collaboration, the programme reflects FCRI’s commitment to translating research into practical solutions for cities navigating rapid technological, environmental, and social change.

As FCRI continues to evolve as a living laboratory for urban innovation, the conference will provide a platform for knowledge exchange, partnership building and future urban-related research & development.
