Celebrating Unity Through Food: Nasi Muhibbah Cooking Competition
The Department of Culinary and Food Studies at the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Sunway University recently collaborated with Jasmine Food Corporation Sdn. Bhd. to organise the Nasi Muhibbah Cooking Competition as part of the "Raikan Muhibbah Bersama Jasmine" Merdeka and Malaysia Day Campaign.
The competition challenged students to create an original dish that celebrates Malaysia’s diversity by combining culinary elements from different cultures into one harmonious plate. Participants were also encouraged to incorporate sustainable practices through the use of local ingredients and mindful cooking approaches.
Following a competitive final round featuring six shortlisted teams, we are excited to announce our congratulations to Momoka Yamaguchi and Chiah Xuan from the BSc (Hons) in Culinary Management programme for emerging as champions with a dish that best embodied the spirit of Muhibbah.
We would also like to thank our judges — Ms Ai Nah K., Chef Kenneth Kam, and Chef Hazique Zudean Jamal — as well as Jasmine Food Corporation for their support in making this meaningful initiative possible.
Together, we celebrate how food can bring people, cultures, and communities together.
