CCLJ & SBS Launch "Combatting Modern Slavery" to Drive Global Human Rights Awareness

In a significant step toward addressing global human rights challenges, the Centre for Commercial Law & Justice (CCLJ) at Sunway Business School officially launched its latest publication, Combatting Modern Slavery: A Global Perspective, on 28 April 2026. The event, held at the Recital Hall of Sunway University @ Sunway Square, convened a distinguished assembly of legal professionals, academics, and policymakers.

Published by Springer Nature, the book provides an extensive multi-stakeholder analysis of modern slavery, offering global insights into the mechanisms required to dismantle this systemic issue. The launch served as a platform for critical dialogue, emphasizing the urgent need for a unified response to one of the most pressing ethical crises of the 21st century.

The ceremony was highlighted by a powerful keynote address delivered by Tun Dato’ Seri Arifin bin Zakaria. His reflections centered on the vital role of robust legal frameworks and the weight of institutional responsibility, calling for collective action to safeguard human dignity and ensure justice for the marginalized.

The event was further distinguished by the attendance of Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat, who presented the book’s foreword. Her presence reinforced the necessity of continuous collaboration and high-level reform in the pursuit of human rights and social justice.

The Centre for Commercial Law & Justice extends its deepest gratitude to the contributors and participants who made the launch a profound success. Through this publication and the discussions it sparked, Sunway University continues to lead the way in fostering essential conversations that contribute to justice, human rights, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
