UK Minister Rt. Hon. Seema Malhotra Visits Sunway University
The 6th of October was a special day for Sunway University, as the Most Happening Campus was graced by the presence of the United Kingdom’s Rt. Hon. Seema Malhotra, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Indo-Pacific and the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Equalities. She visited the campus in conjunction with a special forum entitled Future Forward: UK–Malaysia Connections That Shape Tomorrow, hosted at Sunway University’s Rooftop Terrace.
The event began with a warm welcoming address by Prof Abhimanyu Veerakumarasivam, Provost and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Sunway University, who highlighted the strong and evolving partnership between the United Kingdom and Malaysia in education, research, and innovation.
Tan Sri Sir Dr Jeffrey Cheah, Founder and Chancellor of Sunway University, as well as the founder and current chairman of the Sunway Group, was also present to welcome the distinguished guest and reaffirm Sunway’s commitment to fostering international collaboration and global citizenship through education.
During the forum, Rt. Hon. Seema Malhotra delivered an inspiring talk that underscored the long-standing friendship and shared vision between the United Kingdom and Malaysia. Reflecting on the enduring relationship between the two nations, she remarked that “we are approaching almost 70 years of collaboration” and expressed her hope to see “another 70 years ahead.”
Following her talk, a lively Q&A session with staff and students provided an engaging platform for open dialogue on topics ranging from international relations and equality to leadership and global development. The discussion reflected the spirit of curiosity, inclusivity, and forward-thinking that defines Sunway University’s learning environment.
The visit underscored Sunway University’s growing role as a hub for international engagement and thought leadership, further reinforcing its commitment to building bridges that connect communities across borders for a more sustainable and equitable future.
