Take Action Lab Malaysia: Exploring Future Leadership at Sunway University

After completing their three-month apprenticeship under Tilting Futures: Take Action Lab Malaysia on Environment and Sustainability, a group of students from diverse nationalities visited Sunway University to mark the finale of their programme.

With hands-on exposure and insights into sustainability, the students were eager to seek academic input and guidance as they moved forward with their commitment to apply their learning and advocate for change within their respective universities and communities. Sunway academics engaged the students in exploring the concept of Future Leadership, with a focus on emerging roles in Sustainability Governance and Leadership.

The Jeffrey Sachs Centre provided an overview of the Master in Sustainable Development Management programme, highlighting how it equips students to tackle complex sustainability challenges and showcasing real-world projects and career opportunities.

The School of Hospitality shared lessons shaped by industry needs and challenges, along with future learning pathways and career prospects.

The Faculty of Medical and Life Sciences presented case studies showing how decisions impact the environment, economy, and local communities, emphasising the importance of engaging communities in sustainable solutions. They also shared student feedback from the Planetary Health and Sustainability programme, demonstrating how it strengthens understanding of health, sustainability, and future leadership.

Key take-aways included the impact of sustainability decisions on the environment, economy, communities, and heritage, the value of interdisciplinary thinking, and the importance of combining academic knowledge with real-world experience.
