SUSC X TFM Leadership Training : Empowering the Next Generation

On 1 November 2025, the Sunway University Student Council (SUSC) joined forces with Teach For Malaysia (TFM) to deliver a leadership training session during the General Executive Orientation (GEO) 2025/2026. This collaboration was designed to bridge the gap between student leadership and real-world advocacy, fostering a culture of professionalism and empowerment within the council and the wider Sunway community.

The partnership aimed to equip our new executive members with essential leadership, communication, and team management skills. For the broader student community, the session served as an inspiration to nurture confidence through interactive learning, reinforcing a shared commitment to community empowerment and service.

The energy was high from the very start, beginning with a fast-paced 2-minute reflex test to challenge reaction speeds and serve as an engaging icebreaker. This set the stage for a deep dive into core leadership theories, where TFM introduced the fundamental pillars of a successful leader: Lead Self, Lead Others, and Lead Change. These concepts provided a clear roadmap for students, emphasizing that true impact begins with personal accountability before scaling up to collective action. Central to the training was the theme "Vision to Velocity: Leading Impactful Change on Campus," which guided the day's discussions and activities.

The event was structured into two impactful segments. The first part involved Leadership Experience Sharing, where TFM speakers provided real-world insights into advocacy and educational leadership, giving students a glimpse into the challenges and triumphs of driving social change. This was followed by an Interactive Workshop, a hands-on session where members engaged in collaborative exercises to apply leadership theories to practical campus scenarios, emphasizing teamwork and strategic thinking.

The session concluded with a motivational address by Ms Lee Siok Ping, Director of Student LIFE, who formally welcomed the newly appointed executives. Her remarks marked an inspiring start to the executives’ council journey, emphasizing the importance of leadership grounded in purpose and service. By exposing students to the expertise of TFM and the wisdom of our university leadership, SUSC has reinforced its commitment to developing leaders who are not only capable in their roles but are also dedicated to serving the community with professionalism and heart.
