Sunway University welcomed senior leaders from Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) on 11 June 2025 for a strategic discussion on future collaborations in education, research, and innovation.

The meeting opened with an overview of Sunway University’s history and its upcoming development plans, including the highly anticipated campus expansion. Discussions then turned to UNITEN’s institutional journey since its establishment in 1996/1997 as a self-accredited university with a strong focus on energy-related education and research.

UNITEN shared key statistics, including over 41,000 graduates and a current enrolment of 5,568 students, 77% of whom are local. With 50 accredited programmes spanning bachelor’s, master’s, PhD, and Tahfiz studies, as well as robust TVET pathways, UNITEN highlighted its commitment to technical and vocational excellence. The university also emphasised its strengths in renewable energy, particularly solar power and carbon capture technologies.

Both universities keenly discussed areas of potential collaboration, particularly in areas related to sustainable development.  This shared commitment reflects both institutions' strategic priorities in addressing climate change and promoting long-term environmental stewardship through education and innovation.
