Sunway Student Volunteers: The Shoebox Project 2025
The Shoebox Project – formerly known as Shoebox Christmas – is an annual initiative organised by the Sunway Student Volunteers (SSV) under The Giving Sunwayian and Campus With A Conscience (CWAC) initiatives. The Shoebox Project 2025 was successfully carried out with the aim of fostering compassion, generosity and meaningful community engagement while making a tangible difference in the lives of underserved communities.
In November 2025, the project benefited a total of 192 recipients across various groups including OKU individuals, orphanages, PPR communities and Orang Asli villages. Among the key beneficiaries were Pusat Jagaan Kanak-Kanak Kurang Upaya KIRTARSH, Praise Emmanuel Children’s Home, Trinity’s Community Children’s Home, Suriana Play & Learn Centre (Block 9 and 10), Project HOPE, Ajar-Ajar Sungai Way, PPR Angsana USJ 1, Kampung Orang Asli Bukit Tunggul and Kampung Orang Asli Ulu Kuang.
One of the key highlights of last year’s initiative was the provision of essential aid tailored to each community’s needs. This included the donation of 10 wheelchairs and 9 walkers to OKU beneficiaries as well as school uniforms, school shoes and educational materials for children in orphanages and NGO schools. Educational workshops were also conducted focusing on self-development, emotional resilience, resource management and independence for both younger and older age groups.
Additionally, Orang Asli communities received water filters, helping to address access to clean water while PPR communities and NGO schools were supported with school bags, educational gifts and structured learning modules. Across all locations, sponsored snacks were also distributed to enhance the beneficiaries’ experience.
The success of Shoebox Project 2025 was made possible through the generous contributions of sponsors and public. Key contributors included Sunway Chess Club, Tetap Hangat Reliance Sdn. Bhd., Refiller Mobile Enterprise and proceeds from initiatives such as the Charity Bazaar, Movie Night and Kindness in Colour.
In-kind sponsorships further strengthened the project with contributions from Melvita Malaysia and Sunway Theme Parks by providing essential items and treats for beneficiaries.
The project concluded with a Closing Ceremony held on 5 December 2025, which also marked a significant milestone, the 10th anniversary of the Shoebox Project. This celebration not only commemorated a decade of impact and service but also recognised the dedication of volunteers, partners and stakeholders who have contributed to the growth and success of the initiative over the years.
Through the collective efforts of volunteers, sponsors and partners, the Shoebox Project 2025 once again transformed simple contributions into meaningful impact by spreading hope, care and kindness to communities in need. This initiative continues to embody the spirit of The Giving Sunwayian and Campus With A Conscience (CWAC), striving to build more compassionate and inclusive society – one shoebox at a time.
