Sunway Student Volunteers Organise Health Week Initiative 2025

Health Week 2025, organised by Sunway Student Volunteers (SSV) was successfully held at the Gallery, Sunway University from July 15th to 17th, continuing its mission to promote health awareness, preventive care and community engagement. This year’s event was particularly significant as it marked the 10th anniversary of Health Week, celebrating a decade of impactful health initiatives within the campus community.

For the first time, the event commenced with an Opening Ceremony officiated by the Chief of Student Life & Services, Ms Lee Siok Ping, commemorating this important milestone and recognising the continuous efforts of volunteers, partners and stakeholders in driving health advocacy forward.

Health Week 2025 brought together a diverse network of 13 NGOs and Healthcare organisations, including Pusat Darah Negara, Clinic Dr Prevents, De Beauty Zone, Traditional and Complementary Medicine Divison (Ministry of Health), PT Foundation, Breast Cancer Welfare Association, Listening Lab, Pistil, National Cancer Society of Malaysia, Association of Hypnotherapy Practitioners Malaysia, St. John Ambulance, Pharmacy Enforcement Department (Ministry of Health) and Sunway Eye Centre. These organisations set up informative booths, offering valuable health insights, services and engagement opportunities for students and staff.

In addition, the event saw active participation from Clubs & Societies, namely the Sunway Sports Council, Sunway Calisthenic Club and Sunway Medical Sciences Society, further enriching the programme with student-led initiatives and peer engagement.

A series of educational talk sessions were conducted throughout the event, covering key health topics such as gut health by Yakult (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., menstrual cycle awareness by Pistil, insights from the Traditional & Complementary Medicine Division (Ministry of Health) and breast cancer awareness by the Breast Cancer Welfare Association through the session titled “Know Your Body, Know The Signs.” These sessions aimed to empower participants with practical knowledge to better understand and manage their health.

One of the key highlights remained the blood donation drive in collaboration with Pusat Darah Negara where a total of 40 packs of blood were successfully collected to support national healthcare needs. Alongside this, various health-focused booths and activities encouraged participants to take proactive steps towards maintaining their well-being.

The success of Health Week 2025 was further supported by generous sponsors, including Yakult (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd., YoGood, Pilot Pen and V-Soy who contributed products such as probiotic drinks, granola bars, stationery and beverages to enhance the overall event experience.

Health Week 2025 successfully brought together healthcare professionals, NGOs, sponsors and the campus community to create dynamic and educational platform for health awareness. By combining informative exhibitions, interactive activities and meaningful discussions, the event continues to inspire a culture of wellness and proactive healthcare. As the initiative celebrates its 10-year milestone, it sets a strong foundation for future editions, further strengthening its impact on the community.
