SunFest: Be the Stars that Connect
On 2 July 2025, the Sunway College Student Council and Sunway University Student Council proudly kicked off SunFest 2025: Be the Stars that Connect, our signature four-day festival designed to unite the entire Sunway Campus community under the initiatives of the “A Campus with a Conscience” and the “Giving Sunwayian”. This year’s theme—Be the Stars that Connect—reflects our commitment to forging a purposeful relationship between the students, our broader community, and the two beneficiaries we champion.
The opening ceremony was graced by YB Tuan Lee Cheang Chung, Ahli Parlimen Petaling Jaya; Prof. Dato’ Elizabeth Lee, Group CEO of Sunway Education Group; Prof. Sibrandes Poppema, President of Sunway University; Prof. Mien Wee Cheing, Executive Director of Sunway College; Ms. Lee Siok Ping, Chief of Student LIFE & Services; alongside Sunway’s senior management team. Their presence underscored the importance of collective action and set the tone for a festival centered on giving and societal impact.
This year’s SunFest spotlights two flagship new beneficiaries whose work exemplifies our commitment to societal change and impact. The Sunway Desa Mentari Community Development Programme focuses both on community development and nation-building. Tenaganita champions the rights of migrant workers and vulnerable women—raising awareness, providing legal aid and driving policy advocacy. By shining a light on these programmes, SunFest empowers students to contribute in time, talent, treasure, ties, and testimony.
Thanks to the generosity of our students, staff, alumni, and partners, SunFest 2025 raised over RM 12,000 in pledges to propel our community projects forward. One of the first initiatives funded by these contributions is Project Illuminate, which will install solar-powered lighting throughout Sunway Desa Mentari. By improving visibility and security, this project will help create a safer, more inclusive environment for all residents.
From 1 to 4 July 2025, SunFest turned the campus into a vibrant, student-led celebration in support of our community initiatives. With interactive booths, a campus-wide treasure hunt, live performances, a live leadership podcast, and the new addition of a night festival, MoonFest; SunFest 2025 offered something for everyone—and showcased why Sunway is the Most Happening Campus.
