The School of Nursing, under the Faculty of Medical and Life Sciences, proudly announces the successful completion of the Post Basic in Perioperative Nursing course, a six-month specialised program designed to enhance the knowledge and clinical competencies of registered nurses in perioperative care. Structured to balance academic and clinical learning, the program began with a 12-week theoretical component comprising 10 weeks of classroom instruction, one week of revision, and one week of examinations. Core subjects included Fundamentals of Systemic Perioperative Nursing, Perioperative Care I & II, Surgical Instrumentation, Anesthesia, Microbiology, and Communication, all selected to equip students with a strong foundation in perioperative nursing practices.

Following the academic phase, students undertook clinical postings at two prominent government hospitals. The first was a five-week rotation at Hospital Tunku Ampuan Rahimah, Klang, followed by a seven-week placement at Hospital Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, Kajang. These clinical experiences provided students with practical exposure to a wide range of surgical disciplines including obstetrics, gynaecology, orthopaedics, general surgery, dental, and ophthalmology.

Throughout their clinical training, students actively engaged in the full scope of perioperative nursing, participating in preoperative assessments, assisting during intraoperative procedures, and delivering postoperative care under professional supervision. This hands-on experience not only reinforced their practical skills but also developed critical thinking, effective teamwork, and strict adherence to patient safety protocols.

Despite the intensive nature of the program, students displayed exceptional dedication, adaptability, and professionalism. They successfully met all academic and clinical requirements, demonstrating notable growth in knowledge, technical proficiency, and readiness to serve in perioperative environments.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to all participants for their hard work and achievement. Their perseverance and commitment reflect the high standards of the School of Nursing and mark the beginning of their impactful journey as skilled perioperative nursing professionals.
