SPSY Hosts Dr Jesslyn Chong for an Eye-Opening Talk on Stress and Resilience
Sunway University’s School of Psychology (SPSY) hosted an insightful psychology talk titled “Biopsychosocial Factors Shaping Risk and Resiliency in Face of Early Life Stress.” The session was conducted by Dr Li Shen (Jesslyn) Chong, an assistant professor of clinical psychology at San José State University (SJSU).
Dr Chong, a clinical psychologist and researcher, shared her expertise on the biopsychosocial model, exploring how life adversities and the body’s stress response systems shape vulnerability and resilience across the lifespan. Her research sheds light on racial health disparities and the importance of training future mental health professionals with heart and depth.
The talk was well-received and sparked meaningful discussions among attendees, offering valuable insights into the intersection of biology, psychology, and social context in mental health. It was a memorable afternoon of academic exchange and professional growth, organised with the support of the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation and Sunway University.
