Making Waves in Maths Education: SWIM 2025

"The Future of Mathematics: Adapting to a Changing World"– that was the opening address delivered by our Dean, Prof Chee Kit Ho, setting the tone for a day dedicated to innovation, adaptability, and helping teachers stay afloat in a fast-changing education landscape.

The School of Mathematical Sciences recently made a splash with Sunway's Workshop for Instructors in Mathematics (SWIM), a professional development programme for secondary school mathematics teachers from various international and Chinese independent schools. While most participating teachers came from the Klang Valley, some travelled from as far as Penang, Ipoh, and Johor to be part of this exciting event!

The programme featured three parallel workshops:

  • The Art of Graphs: Revolutionizing Maths with Desmos
    Facilitator: Prithikah Prakash
  • Level Up: Engaging Learners Through Gamification of Maths
    Facilitator: San Loo Yong
  • From Chalkboard to Chatbots: AI in Maths Education
    Facilitator: Ghajendran Poovanandran

More than just sharing tools, SWIM aimed to help teachers dive deeper into how maths can be experienced, not just taught, by transforming abstract concepts into interactive and meaningful learning activities. By the end, teachers surfaced with fresh strategies to keep their lessons engaging and impactful in today’s dynamic education landscape.

A big shout-out to the Marketing Department and our amazing student ambassadors for their invaluable support in making this event a success.
