Making History in Nursing: Congratulations to Mr Irwan, Sunway's Outstanding Young Alumnus 2025
On the 1st of November 2025, Sunway University celebrated the Alumni Awards 2025, a night dedicated to honouring graduates who have made meaningful contributions in their professions and communities.
It was a moment of immense pride and history for the School of Nursing, as our alumnus Mr Irwan Hakeem became the first nursing graduate in Sunway’s history to receive the Sunway Outstanding Young Alumni Award 2025. This achievement marks a significant milestone, a testament to the growing recognition of nursing as both a noble and transformative profession.
In his heartfelt words, Mr Irwan shared:
“Walking into the venue with my mother, I felt a mix of nerves and excitement. The table I was seated at was filled with professors and high-profile alumni, people I deeply respect. Later that evening, I was told I had been chosen out of 96 alumni across various disciplines, and that I was the first nursing alumnus in Sunway’s history to ever receive this award. Hearing that left me completely speechless.
I was never the smartest or most talented student, but I worked hard and stayed consistent. That moment reminded me that perseverance and purpose will always open doors that talent alone cannot.
This award isn’t just a personal achievement, it’s a milestone for nursing in Sunway and Malaysia. It represents the growing recognition of our profession’s importance, and I’m committed to continue raising its name and standard.”
