Exploring the Future of Sustainable Luxury with Adjunct Professor Jackie Hoo
We were honoured to welcome Adjunct Professor Jackie Hoo for an inspiring session on “Sustainable Luxury: Ethics and Responsibility – The Rise of Sustainable Luxury and Eco-Conscious Consumers”.
The session provided valuable insights for our degree students taking the Luxury and Brand Management subject, exploring how luxury brands are redefining excellence by embracing sustainability and ethical practices in today’s conscious marketplace.
Adj. Prof. Jackie also shared her remarkable career journey, beginning from housekeeping and rooms division, advancing to General Manager in luxury hotels, and later joining the luxury yacht industry. Her experiences offered students a real-world perspective on career growth, leadership, and cross-cultural management in the global hospitality scene.
In addition, Prof. Jackie introduced examples of sustainable operations within luxury yachts, such as water and waste management systems that convert black water into consumable water, the use of organic ingredients across all food production, eco-conscious guest room cleaning management through efficient occupancy planning, and the adoption of sustainable room inventory materials — all reflecting how sustainability is becoming integral to luxury service excellence.
Her passion, insights, and personal stories truly inspired students to envision how responsibility and innovation can go hand-in-hand in shaping the future of sustainable luxury.
