Bomba Heads to Desa Mentari: Sunway Desa Mentari Community Development Programme
At Sunway University, learning goes far beyond the classroom—and the SafeSpark initiative is an example of this ethos in action. As part of a student-led project under the Community Service for Planetary Health and the Sunway Desa Mentari Community Development Programme, students have partnered with the local fire department and city council to launch a community-driven fire safety campaign involving the Desa Mentari community.
In collaboration with Bomba Jalan Penchala-Malaysia, PJ Lestari, and the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), the SafeSpark initiative is designed to raise awareness, promote preventative safety measures, and co-create practical solutions with the local community. From conducting fire safety workshops to engaging residents in emergency preparedness, the programme gives students the opportunity to make a real-world impact.
This meaningful initiative exemplifies the power of public-private-people partnerships and showcases how education, civic engagement, and community collaboration can come together to deliver sustainable, life-saving outcomes.
