He is an expert in statistical machine learning and quantitative finance. Dr Saldanha recently joined the Board of Sunway International Schools, Malaysia as part of its collaboration with Magdalen College School, Oxford where he has served as a Governor, Company Director and Charity Trustee for over eight years. Dr Saldanha worked in the City of London for over 20 years and was involved in risk, trading and fund management activities at various large established financial institutions. As well as postgraduate teaching in the School of Economics and Finance, Dr Saldanha is involved in the AI for Control Problems Project at The Alan Turing Institute. This lecture will focus on the gap between the general-purpose capabilities of LLMs and the precision-driven demands of global financial markets. While LLMs are highly effective in processing unstructured data, they face structural, ethical, and regulatory limitations that prevent them from replacing traditional quantitative models and human judgment.

Key discussion areas include:

  • Hype vs. the high level of accuracy required for sound trading decisions
  • Technical and cognitive limitations of LLMs
  • Strategic and market risks
  • Regulatory and legal constraints

We warmly invite all staff and students to attend this timely and insightful session. Don’t miss the opportunity to gain valuable perspectives from an international expert at the intersection of AI and finance.
